Empowering Female Voices

The Woman Thing focuses on the work of female, femme, and female-identifying poets. The name is inspired by the Audre Lorde poem of the same title. There is a long and well-established history of exclusion of women from not just poetry but all literary arts. As an organization we find this unacceptable and we are endeavoring to challenge the systems and institutions that have canonized the erasure of female experiences and stories. We believe that by centering and amplifying those voices a real difference can be made.
